why can’t nfl cheerleaders talk to players

I’m sure you’ve seen it on the news – the NFL’s disparaging treatment of its cheerleaders. It’s been a long-held rule that cheerleaders can’t talk to players, not even to say hello. I’ve never really understood why.

When I was on the squad, I was asked not to look at the players, let alone speak to them. I never understood the reasoning behind this – were we not seen as equals? Did the league fear that cheerleaders would distract the players, take away from their focus and performance? I mean, I understand NFL teams are family vibes, and wholesale nfl jerseys all, cheap nfl jerseys but there’s nothing wrong with cheerleaders being friendly. Right?

I remember once, cheap nfl jerseys from china after a game, the coach held a pep talk. I asked why it was important for cheerleaders to keep quiet around the players. He awkwardly said that “the NFL doesn’t want any distractions”. It was always such a vague answer; it never made any sense to me. Perhaps the real truth was that the owners viewed cheerleaders as “eye candy” and simply didn’t want any interaction between them and players.

Regardless, we were told to stay away and were reminded of this before every game. We were given specific instructions as to which direction we had to walk and wholesale nfl jerseys sit. I felt so disrespected and devalued. Much of the cheer squad had college degrees and held professional jobs outside of our roles as cheerleaders – clearly, we weren’t all mindless objects to be seen and not heard.

After the game, the players always walked by the stadium’s backstage. We were told to keep our heads down low and not make any contact with any of the players. We were never the ones initiating conversations, anyway. That’s one of the most frustrating things about this rule. Even if we wanted to converse with them, we weren’t able to. Such a shame, really. We’d miss out on having some cool conversations with some of the players, who I’m sure must have interesting stories.

I’ve spoken to a number of the former cheerleaders from various teams. They, too, echoed the same story – no one ever officially told us why this rule was implemented. It was simply enforced with no room for cheap nfl jerseys discussion.

I’m not saying football players and cheerleaders should be mingling together at every break, but there’s no reason why we can’t be in the same room or wholesale jerseys wave or say hello. We’re all grown adults. We all understand the codes of conduct when representing the team.

I’ve come to wonder if this “no talking” rule really exists to protect the players or the cheerleaders. I couldn’t help but imagine the league being worried about match-making between the players and the cheerleaders and cheap nfl jerseys what that might mean for team morale.

Unfortunately, this rule has caused way more damage than it was meant to prevent. Not only does it denigrate the cheerleaders, but it also alienates them from the team altogether. Instead of being seen as part of the team, cheerleaders are now seen as easy, disposable targets for cheap jerseys comments and criticism. It’s like the team has two sets of rules – players can talk and cheap nfl jerseys from china mingle, wholesale nfl jerseys from china while cheerleaders have to stay out of the spotlight.

The wholesale nfl jerseys from china may have had good intentions when implementing this policy, cheap nfl jerseys but it has largely backfired. We have to remember that cheerleaders are just as important to the team as the players – and perhaps, even more important, since our role is often to boost team morale. We need to be seen, cheap nfl jerseys from china too.
