When I heard recently that Marquette King was no longer in the NFL, I was really surprised. I remember following his career when he was a young player with the Raiders and then with the Broncos. Marquette King was one of the most exciting and talented punters in the league. His booming kicks, coupled with his larger-than-life personality made him a fan favorite. He was one of those rare players who could bring an electric energy to a game.
Part of his attraction was that he was not content to conform to league rules. King defied the NFL in many ways in order to express his individuality. He often was seen sporting wild hairstyles on the field. He also was known for his bombastic celebrations of his successful punts, wholesale jerseys going as far as to dance to his own pre-recorded beats.
But the fines were accumulating as the wholesale nfl jerseys from china saw these acts as threats to the league’s unwritten code of conformity. He was undeterred and wholesale jerseys from china continued to transcend the rules. As a result, after spending six seasons in the league King was released by the Broncos; never to return.
The news of his release left me feeling a bit lost. Marquette King was, for me, one of the most inspiring players. I was hoping that the great performance he delivered in the past season with the Broncos would demonstrate to the league his dedication to the game and wholesale nfl jerseys from china the passion he had for the sport. But unfortunately, cheap nfl jerseys from china the NFL wasn’t ready to appreciate his uniqueness.
I’ve heard stories that King had prior offers from a few teams; yet he chose to stay with the Broncos. Perhaps he wanted a team to notice his individualism and give him the chance to express himself. But the NFL wasn’t ready to accept this. Racism and cheap nfl jerseys jerseys stigmas around the game deem radical expressions of individuality as unacceptable for players in the NFL.
It’s so tragic to see such an extraordinary talent have to cut his career short because of those forces. Besides, who doesn’t want a little excitement in their sports? Marquette King brought excitement to a game that can be easy to fall asleep to at times. Is the NFL ready to respect an individual’s creativity and uniqueness? I’d say they have a long way to go if they still keep thinking that Marquette King isn’t good enough for them.
Still, it’s with a heavy heart that I accept that Marquette King is no longer part of the NFL. The league has lost its biggest showman, cheap jerseys and cheap nfl jerseys there isn’t anyone like Marquette King who could fill this void. Not only did he bring entertainment to the game, but he also inspired many players and fans like me to dream big and follow their passions.
For me personally, Marquette King will forever be an inspiration. I’ll never forget how his punts kept the team alive each time his feet touched the ball. His hunger to prove himself to the league was really inspiring for all of us on the sidelines.
I’m often left wondering even today, if the NFL ever got their money’s worth out of Marquette King. Perhaps he was not the player they were looking for, wholesale jerseys but could they really just discard a player of his caliber without giving him an opportunity to hone his skills?
Though he hasn’t had any offers from NFL teams in the meantime, that doesn’t mean Marquette King’s career is over. His fans still hold out hope for him to return to the league one day.The hope is even bigger, now, that the NFL is beginning to focus on talent rather than conformity to the league’s norms.
It would be a dream come true to see Marquette King don an NFL jersey again. He already proved that he has what it takes to be regarded as one of the greatest punters ever. What fans like me need now is a team to take a risk on King and give him the chance to show the world his greatness.
