what of nfl coaches are black

I remember hearing about the big debate surrounding the lack of Black head coaches in the NFL throughout my entire life. It was finally addressed in 2003 when the NFL implemented the “Rooney Rule” which required head coaches of any NFL team to be interviewed for job openings if they are of ethnic minority backgrounds. It has been decades since that time and the success of Black head coaches has been mixed.

When I think about those who have made a successful career in the NFL, my mind immediately jumps to guys like Tony Dungy, Mike Tomlin, and Lovie Smith, who have led teams to huge successes and wholesale nfl jerseys even a Super Bowl wins. Even though they have come close to major defeats a few times, they represent the successful Black head coaches of the cheap nfl jerseys who have been able to break down the barriers of racism that were so evident in this sport decades ago.

But then I can’t help but think about those coaches who have tried their best but have been unsuccessful in their bids for glory. Names like Rex Ryan, Marvin Lewis, and Hue Jackson all come to mind, and cheap jerseys they make me realize that although there have been some successes in hiring Black head coaches, there is still a lot of work to be done. It’s frustrating to see these coaches continuously be pushed to the brink of extinction in the NFL, wholesale jerseys from china while the majority of head coaches continue to be white males.

One of the biggest issues that I have noticed is the lack of resources that these coaches have access to. For example, the Dolphins coaching staff led by Lovie Smith isn’t always able to afford the best assistants. Likewise, Rex Ryan has always been the underdog, as his teams are frequently understaffed and under-supported. This obviously leads to an uneven playing field, which doesn’t provide the opportunity for cheap nfl jerseys these coaches to thrive as well as their white counterparts.

At times, it almost feels like the NFL is trying to set up its Black head coaches for failure, instead of attempting to put them in the best possible position to succeed. This makes me angry because I know that there are a lot of Black coaches out there who deserve a chance to take the helm of a major team and wholesale jerseys lead it to greatness. However, the system is still playing catch up to provide these deserving coaches with a better opportunity to rise to the top.

In addition to the lack of resources, I’ve noticed that there is a common narrative among the majority of NFL front offices: They expect either offensive or defensive coaching, nothing in between. This leaves Black head coaches at a significant disadvantage because they don’t necessarily fit this “one size fits all” coaching style. Sure, there are some great offensive minds among the Black head coaches, but there are also coaches who have an extreme mastery of both the offense and defense and they don’t get the credit they deserve.

It’s really infuriating; the fact that there is still so much work to be done when it comes to NFL head coaching diversity. It has been almost two decades since the Rooney Rule was implemented, and the biggest indicator of its success is the number of Super Bowl wins by Black head coaches. Though there have been small victories in the form of winnings and wholesale jerseys from china losses, cheap nfl jerseys from china the overall picture of Black NFL head coaches remains less than ideal. I believe that it’s time for the powers that be to start honoring the achievements of these coaches as well as providing them with the resources they need to consistently perform at a high level.
